Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Mohsin Naqvi has stated that a “hybrid model” for hosting the Champions Trophy will not be accepted by Pakistan. The tournament, scheduled for February and March next year, is the first global event to be hosted by Pakistan since 1996. However, due to political tensions between Pakistan and India, there is speculation that India may play their matches in a country other than Pakistan, possibly the United Arab Emirates. Naqvi emphasized that sports should remain above politics and cricket should not be sacrificed due to political issues. The International Cricket Council has not yet addressed the situation publicly, causing confusion over the schedule and making it challenging for teams, supporters, and media to make plans for the event. The tournament format consists of two groups of four teams, with the top two advancing to the semi-finals. If India’s matches are played outside Pakistan, it could lead to logistical challenges with potentially needing two separate venues over 1,000 miles apart for the semi-finals or final.
