Airbus is set to cut 477 jobs in the UK as part of a global reduction of more than 2,000 jobs by mid-2026. The company aims to trim costs and streamline its space business. The job cuts will not be compulsory, with the majority of positions affected not tied to specific projects. The company cites struggles with supply chain “bottlenecks” as a reason for falling profits despite rising sales. Airbus plans to work with social partners to minimize the impact of the job cuts and reduce its fixed cost base. The cuts will primarily affect the space arm of the business, with reductions in other departments as well. Geographically, the job cuts will be concentrated in Western Europe, with Germany, France, and Spain also experiencing significant reductions. This is not the first time Airbus has had to reduce staff, following similar cuts in 2020 due to the impact of the pandemic on the aviation industry.
