Molly Robinson previously visited Langley Castle with her husband Jock before he passed away

A 92-year-old woman has been dubbed “Britain’s most loyal customer” for attending the same restaurant each week for 37 years.

Molly Robinson has had lunch at Langley Castle in Northumberland every Thursday since 1987.

The widow, from Alston in Cumbria, originally visited the medieval castle with her late-husband Jock, and the pair would enjoy overnight stays.

Her lunch choice never changes, enjoying the soup of the day and fish and chips, washed down with two glasses of champagne.

Since her husband passed away, Mrs Robinson has mainly visited on her own, and makes the half-hour trip from home by taxi.

She always offers a glass of champagne to the staff, to try to encourage them to join her for a while.

‘She’s my favourite’

Eilidh Wise, food and beverage assistant and part-time tour guide, described Mrs Robinson as a “VIP”.

“We’re not supposed to have favourites but she’s certainly my favourite,” she said.

Food and beverage manager Aiden McGuinness said Mrs Robinson had seen five different managers in her time.

“She has made friends with countless visitors over the years and had goodness knows how many chinwags,” he added.

Mrs Robinson said she “adores” the castle and the staff.

“They’re more or less queuing up for it,” she told BBC Radio Newcastle.
